An MRI is a very powerful imaging tool that allows our doctors and specialists to more closely examine the soft tissue areas of your pet’s body. This may include capturing images of the brain or spine, examining the joints or evaluating the cardiovascular structures. Performing MRIs provides us with more detailed information about any structural or functional abnormalities your pet may be experiencing. At Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Care, we offer MRI as a complement to our other imaging services, including radiographs (x-rays) and CT-scans.

What is MRI?

MRI technology uses a magnetic field to manipulate the state of protons in soft tissue. In doing so, extremely high resolution images are returned that can be carefully studied. Of all the available imaging options, MRIs produce the best results. This enables our highly experienced doctors to diagnose medical problems much faster. This is especially beneficial in cases for which a timely diagnosis is critical, such as with acute illnesses or degenerative conditions. The sooner we can get the answers we need, the faster and more effectively we can treat the underlying issue. This can vastly improve the prognosis for the patient.
What is MRI used for?

While MRIs were once considered to be too costly for practical use in veterinary medicine, thankfully it has since become a much more common practice. At Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Care, we strongly believe that our patients deserve the best possible care. As such, we are pleased to offer MRI services to facilitate timelier and more accurate diagnosis of conditions that may include:

  • Cancer
  • Diseases of the Brain (Brain Tumors)
  • Joint or Muscle problems
  • Back/Neck Pain
  • Intervertebral Disk Herniation
  • Lameness
  • Paralysis
  • Seizures
  • More…

Are MRIs safe?

MRI scanners have been deemed completely safe for use on both humans and animals. What’s more, the process is totally painless, so your companion won’t experience any discomfort.
